Fans around the world have heard pieces of their own lives in the lyrics of Chris Janson’s new single, “Bye Mom.” Now they can see them reflected in the song’s official music video as co-writer Brandon Kinney honors his late mother by playing out their own story on screen (watch HERE). Janson and his team, including director Spidey Smith, opted not to hire actors for this true-to-life project. Instead, Kinney’s children play younger versions of himself and his wife plays the titular mom.

“I hope the ‘Bye Mom’ video brings back memories that everyone can identify with,” Janson said. “This song is really about going through different stages of life and feeling that special kind of unconditional love. It was especially important to me to have Brandon and his family star in the video because it’s his real story. Nobody could’ve provided the real emotion better. His whole family really ties it all together. I’m humbled by them, thankful and so proud.”

The video made its broadcast premiere with CMT, including the ViacomCBS billboard in Times Square, while People published an exclusive interview (HERE). Described as “achingly lovely” (MusicRow), “Bye Mom” is the first single from Janson’s upcoming album. It follows five Gold and Platinum-certified hits from his previous two projects, including four chart-toppers, and is due at country radio this Monday, September 27. Taste of Country applauded “Bye Mom” as a “masterfully written story song” and declared that “Janson’s next musical chapter is beginning with perhaps his best ballad to date.” Listen HERE.

The single is derived from the real-life story of co-writer Brandon Kinney, who lost his mother late last year. He, alongside longtime friend Janson, put the experience into lyrics as a tribute to his mom; together they turned the song into a message not just about loss, but also about loving someone more than yourself. Whether from a mother, father, brother, sister, friend or lover, “Bye Mom” gently opines that everyone deserves to feel that kind of immeasurable love.

A celebrated recording artist, Janson joined Warner Music Nashville in 2015 as his now 3x Platinum, chart-topping smash “Buy Me A Boat” became a viral and now perennial sensation. Over the past six years he has garnered upwards of seven billion airplay impressions, earned more than 1 billion on-demand career streams to date and been inducted as a member of the esteemed Grand Ole Opry.

Janson is currently on the road for his Back At It tour dates. He recently appeared on KTLA to talk about his show in Norco, CA and “Bye Mom” (watch HERE). The Back At It run spans nearly every single weekend from now through October and features headlining performances, festivals, fairs and special events.
