Platinum-selling, chart-topping artists Dan + Shay (Dan Smyers + Shay Mooney) had 100 “Million Reasons” to celebrate last week when their hit single “Tequila” reached 100 million streams on Spotify – and now fans can hear the viral smash and their take on Lady Gaga’s emotional ballad in the platform’s latest Singles session. The two newly recorded tracks, recorded in Nashville at Sound Stage Studios, are available now (listen HERE).
Even after spending multiple weeks atop the country airplay charts, “Tequila” continues building momentum. Described as mixing “the sweeping punch of a power ballad with the familiar twang of a country-pop drinking song” (Rolling Stone), the single is currently Top 15 on the Hot AC charts and has earned more than 260 million total on-demand streams. It has surpassed two million track equivalent sales and has been certified Double Platinum in Canada. “Tequila” is the most-streamed country song released in 2018 and the second most-streamed country song of the year overall. In addition to Spotify Singles, Dan + Shay have released vocal-only (listen HERE) and remixed (listen HERE) versions of the massive track.
The record-breaking single has recently received three CMA Awards nods for Song, Single, and Video of the Year, and Dan + Shay have also earned a nomination for Duo of the Year – but their accomplishments don’t stop with “Tequila.” Romantic tune “Speechless” is officially their fastest growing single to date. It is currently Top 20 at country radio and ranks No. 1 in consumption, track sales and streams among this week’s Mediabase Top 50. “Speechless” has already achieved 80 million on-demand streams and sold more than 600,000 track equivalents. Buoyed by the success of the two songs, Dan + Shay have spent 18 consecutive weeks among the Top 10 country streaming artists.
Over the course of the year, the skyrocketing duo has been visible in and outside of country music. This week Dan + Shay were featured on the cover of HITS magazine. They have also performed on national television stages throughout the last few months, including Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Ellen, the CMA Fest concert special, the 53rd Annual ACM Awards, the 2018 CMT Music Awards and the Citi Summer Concert Series on TODAY. Dan + Shay recently wrapped the Rascal Flatts “Back To Us” Tour and will join Chris Young for the fall leg on his “Losing Sleep” Tour this month. They will kick off their headlining UK tour on January 17, 2019 where they will perform their collection of No.1 hits along with brand new music across the globe.
