On Friday (6/9), COJO Music / Warner Music Nashville Platinum recording artist Cody Johnson presented country music icon Reba McEntire with a Gold plaque for their hit duet “Dear Rodeo.” At the time of its release media raved about their vocal performance on the song, Billboard claimed it “hit all the right notes” and MusicRow shared it’s “a beautiful piece of work.”

The surprise gesture to Reba took place backstage at Nissan Stadium before Cody’s set, his first appearance at Nissan as part of CMA Fest. During his performance Reba astounded the audience with a surprise walk on to perform together her chart-topping hit, “Whoever’s in New England,” “a dynamic performance worthy of a jet-engine roar of a standing ovation.” (Tennessean)

Reba was featured as Artist of the Day for this year’s festival, also headlining Spotify House and appearing at the CMA Close Up Stage, where she shared stories from her forthcoming lifestyle book, "Not That Fancy: Simple Lessons on Living, Loving, Eating, and Dusting Off Your Boots," due in October.

“Dear Rodeo” also inspired an award-winning feature-length documentary, Dear Rodeo: The Cody Johnson Story, released to select cinemas nationwide and available across multiple streaming platforms in 2021. The story focused on Cody’s years on the rodeo circuit and how it prepared him for life as a country star. From standing in the back of the chute at the rodeo or singing about it in front of 75,000 people, viewers are had an intimate glimpse into his real-life journey from the dusty rodeo arenas of rural Texas to some of the biggest musical stages in America.
