Award-Winning Duo Celebrate Their First Multi-Week No. 1 Single

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – (July 9, 2018) – From the day Dan + Shay (Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney) met each other, they knew their friendship and musical bond was something special. More than five years later, the duo continues to build on what they started and is experiencing some amazing firsts in the process. A week after simultaneously landing their new self-titled album and single “Tequila” at No. 1 on the charts, the first time a duo or group has done so since 2009, the pair celebrate another week atop the country singles as “Tequila” becomes their fourth consecutive No. 1 and first multi-week No. 1 song. As the fifth most-streamed country song of the year with over 150 million on-demand streams, a brand-new R3Hab remix of the track was released last week as a gift to fans, currently featured on Spotify's New Music Friday playlist.

“Well this is pretty amazing,” said Smyers. “This multiple-week number one is a first for us and our team, and we could not be more excited to celebrate it with so many people we love. Thank you to country radio and our fans for changing our world with this song!”

With over 200,000 album equivalents and over 250 million cumulative streamsDan + Shay accumulated 29 million cumulative streams during release-week alone, making it the highest debut-week stream-total of any new country release in 2018. Co-produced by Smyers alongside the award-winning Scott Hendricks, it is the only country album released this year to have every song hit Nielsen’s Country On-Demand Streaming chart, with all 11 tracks featuring a writing credit from the duo. In a recent interview with Billboard, the singer/songwriters discussed the whirlwind year they’ve had with the global smash hit and what it means to them (READ HERE).

The album has drawn the attention of fans and fellow artists spanning multiple genres, including Keith Urban, Demi Lovato, Luke Combs, Kelly Clarkson, Brett Eldredge and Shawn Mendes. An array of national media outlets have tendered their praise, withRolling Stone applauding Mooney for “a voice that is both lithe and brawny, yet steeped in contemporary vernacular” and noting, “Dan + Shay are at their most collectively potent on the soulful cuts ‘What Keeps You Up at Night’ and ‘Speechless,’ their groove-oriented production giving Mooney plenty of space to proclaim his love in soaring fashion.” People featured the album as a “People’s Picks,” citing music laden with “plenty of soul.”

Dan + Shay took “Tequila” to Ellen, the 53rd Annual ACM Awards and the 2018 CMT Music Awards, performing three songs for the Citi Summer Concert Series on TODAY week of release. Other recent activities found the duo with GRAMMY-winning recording artist Kelly Clarkson for a special Facebook Live event (WATCH HERE) in which they discussed their collaboration on “Keeping Score.” Dan + Shay also previewed the record for fans with an iHeartRadio / iHeartCountry album release event and a YouTube Live from YouTube Space NYC in Chelsea (WATCH HERE).

Committed to bringing their music to as many fans as possible, the duo is out on the road with Rascal Flatts for their “Back To Us” Tour through the summer and will join Chris Young for the fall leg of his “Losing Sleep” Tour in October.  They’ll take their collection of No. 1 hits and brand new music across the globe with their recently announced six-date UK tour kicking off January 17, 2019.
