Country Icons Don Schlitz, Vince Gill Join Celebration in Grenada, MS

Critically acclaimed country music recording artist Charlie Worsham may call Nashville home, but he’ll never forget where it all started – and that’s why he returned to Grenada, MS to host his third annual Follow Your Heart gala on December 1. The event, which raised $50,000 toward the Follow Your Heart Scholarship Fund, celebrated three scholarship recipients as well as the distribution of 50 Fender guitars to promising young music students in the area. Two-time CMA Entertainer of the Year and five-time CMA Male Vocalist of the Year Vince Gill and GRAMMY-winner and Country Music Hall of Fame inductee Don Schlitz joined Worsham for the occasion.

“These young men and women, both the guitar students and the scholarship winners, are my heroes,” said Worsham. “They represent our hope for the future. The joy on their faces is proof to me of the power of music education – and I don’t think Grenada, MS will ever stop talking about the night Vince Gill and Don Schlitz came to town! Both of these men have always been heroes to me for the obvious musical reasons, but it’s their character that shines brighter than anything. I am a very grateful man.”

The rising singer / songwriter attended Grenada High School and went on to study at Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music In addition to his life as a musician, Worsham is actively involved in music education and founded the Follow Your Heart Scholarship Fund in partnership with The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. The fund supports the youth of Grenada who possess uncommon talent and desire to achieve great things in the arts.

Added Worsham, “Thank you to the ACM, the CMA, CMT, Delta State University’s Delta Music Institute Fender, the Grammy Museum in Cleveland, MS and the Grenada School District. We could not have had such a successful year without their support.”

Beloved within the Nashville community and beyond, Worsham’s latest release Beginning of Things received widespread acclaim. NPR Music praised the way his music exhibits “deep musicality…great playing, [and] sophisticated lyricism…” whileRolling Stone has declared him “a fleet-fingered guitarist and empathetic vocalist” with “talent [that] is reminiscent of a young Keith Urban in all the best ways.” Fans can see Worsham on Monday, December 17 at The Basement East in Nashville, TN for Charlie Worsham’s Every Damn Holiday – all proceeds will benefit the Follow Your Heart Scholarship Fund.
