John Rich's Working-Class Anthem “Shuttin' Detroit Down" Makes Impact at Country Radio

Overwhelming Demand By Fans Gives Label Pressure To Switch Courses And Move-Up Date For Solo Album Release To March 24

In just one week, John Rich has given working-class Americans a new anthem and created buzz on the radio with his single, “Shuttin’ Detroit Down.” The single made its debut at No. 34 on the Radio & Records Singles Chart, making this his first Top 40 hit as a solo artist, and No. 41 on the Country Aircheck Singles chart this week. With the dramatic impact on fans and country radio, Warner Bros. Records is changing course by replacing the current single, “Another You,” with “Shuttin’ Detroit Down” and moving up Rich’s solo album release, Son Of A Preacher Man, to March 24.

Rich debuted the single on Detroit Country radio stations last Tuesday and played it again on Blair Garner’s AfterMidnite radio show and the phone lines immediately lit up. Tim Roberts, Program Director at WYCD-FM, told the Detroit Free Press, “It has spread like wild fire. It’s unbelievable. It’s one of the biggest records we’ve had in years.” Garner also told the Detroit Free Press, “In 15 years of doing this show, I've never seen anything like it." “Shuttin’ Detroit Down” is now available at all digital retailers for purchase.

“A populist anthem that combines elements of working-class pride, economic frustration, and class warfare,” according to the Detroit Free Press, “Shuttin’ Detroit Down” is resonating with fans in tough economic times. Rich says the single "is about the working men and women of America, and how Washington and New York City are slinging billions of dollars over the tops of our heads, while hard working people are going down the drain."
