Warner Music Nashville Nominated for Two Academies of Nashville Awards

Warner Music Nashville (WMN) has been nominated for two Academies of Nashville Awards, a program created by the Nashville Chamber of Commerce celebrating the outstanding teachers, administrators, schools, programs and business partnerships that are making a difference in Metro Nashville Public Schools. WMN has been nominated in the categories of Academy Partnership of the Year, Arts, Media and Communications Partnership Council and Externship Project of the Year, for its work with the Academy of Entertainment Management at Pearl-Cohn High School.

Warner Music Nashville partnered with Pearl-Cohn Entertainment Magnet High School to transform the learning experience for students. Warner hosted 20 student interns in the summer of 2012, providing an in-depth exposure to the music industry business in preparation for the launch of a student-run record label at the school. In addition to the student experience, Warner hosted several Pearl-Cohn faculty members during a weeklong externship to support thematic curriculum integration.

WMN also hosted teacher teams from all three of Pearl-Cohn’s academies during the summer of 2012. Teachers spent three days at Warner Music Nashville interacting with employees from the recording industry and media publishing offices. The teachers interacted with multiple departments, such as A&R, brand management, promotion and legal. Teachers asked questions related to actual clients and situations and were able to observe studio engineers mixing the Lady Antebellum Christmas album. The teams met each day to work on their externship projects, and presented these plans to a panel of business partners and district personnel,

Beyond the summer internships and externships, Warner is intimately involved in the development and operations of the student label. Further, Warner plays an important role on the advisory board by providing expertise and resources for Pearl-Cohn. With its focus on students, the Warner partnership has been foundational in the success of the academies at Pearl-Cohn.
