Critically acclaimed recording artist, singer / songwriter and musician Charlie Worsham is again taking to the airwaves, this time as the host of his own radio show. “Air Castle Community Hour” is a monthly show on WSM radio, home to the Grand Ole Opry, celebrating the diverse community of creative spirits that reside in the 615. Worsham will be behind the mic beginning tonight, July 7 at 7:00pm/6:00c and will continue to broadcast every first Tuesday of each month.

“For 94 years, WSM has been the literal hub of the country music airwaves, and throughout my 14 years in Nashville, I’ve been fortunate to come to know so many of the creative spirits that make the music that makes us proud,” he said. “It’s a thrill and an honor to host a monthly show on WSM that highlights the diversity and charm of Music City’s music makers. I want this radio hour to feel like a community happy hour, one complete with laughter and smiles as well as poignant reflection, and of course, great stories and songs.”

Named for the antenna that broadcasts 650 AM, “Air Castle Community Hour” was born from a desire to share the music from Nashville’s creative spirits. The first episode features songs from a varied array of artists, spanning Hailey Whitters to The Staples Singers, all interwoven among Worsham’s tales from country music history.

“It’s always been important to me that the Grand Ole Opry strives to showcase the past, present, and future of country music,” said Vice President and Executive Producer of the Grand Ole Opry Dan Rogers. “I firmly believe that Charlie Worsham does the same thing. I know many of us in the Opry family look forward to tuning in and hearing from some of the artists we love as well as to having Charlie introduce us to voices that may be new to us.”

Worsham is committed to hosting a show that’s organically inclusive of all who have contributed to the country music landscape. He continues to use his voice to advocate for equality, recently penning an editorial for Rolling Stone about the Mississippi state flag. A proud native, Worsham acknowledges its history while standing up for a change that he believes will better represent all members of his beloved home state. Read more HERE.

In addition to lending his pen and preparing for the Air Castle Community Hour, Worsham has offered support to others during the pandemic the best way he knows how: through music. Watch the ACM Award nominee for Specialty Instrument Player of the Year collaborate with familiar faces in his versions of the Beatles’ “With A Little Help From My Friends” (watch HERE) and David Bowie’s “Heroes” (watch HERE). Fans can keep an ear out for additional new music coming later this year.

About Charlie Worsham

Beloved within the Nashville community, Charlie Worsham has received widespread critical acclaim throughout his career. His debut album Rubberband impressively landed on several of 2013 Best Of lists; including Spin’s “Best Country Albums,” American Songwriter’s “Top 50 Albums,” and Billboard’s “Top 10 Country Albums.” iTunes also featured Rubberband as one if its “Best of 2013 Editor’s Choice and Top Sellers" as well as being featured in Rhapsody’s “Top 25 Albums of 2013.” The much-anticipated follow-up Beginning of Things was praised by NPR Music for exhibiting “deep musicality…great playing, [and] sophisticated lyricism…” with Rolling Stone naming the album to their 40 Best Country and Americana Albums of 2017 calling it "The Most Vulnerable Country Album” of the year. Variety, CMT, and PopMatters are just a few of the esteemed outlets who also included his sophomore effort on year-end best of lists. Born and raised in Mississippi, Worsham attended Grenada High School and went on to study at Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music. In addition to his life as a musician, Worsham is actively involved in music education and, last year, founded the Follow Your Heart Scholarship Fund in partnership with The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. The fund supports the youth of his hometown who possess uncommon talent and desire to achieve great things in the arts.
