Releases Video for Stripped-Down Version of Brooks & Dunn’s Iconic “Red Dirt Road”

Fresh off the heels of his first-ever ACM Awards nomination, COJO Music / Warner Music Nashville recording artist Cody Johnson continues to prove why he earned the nod for New Male Artist of the Year. Accompanied by his bandmates and an array of string instruments, Johnson is showing his true country roots with an acoustic performance of Brooks & Dunn’s legendary “Red Dirt Road” available on YouTube today (WATCH HERE).

Featured on Brooks & Dunn’s Reboot album, Taste of Country praised the track as an “even more nostalgic performance than the one fans grew to love,” adding that the “mellow, almost acoustic remix softens the sonic impact and puts emphasis on lyrics and vocals.” “Red Dirt Road” (Acoustic) follows the previously released video for “Nothin’ On You” (Acoustic) (WATCH HERE), which has garnered more than 45 million on-demand streams to date. The personal and intimate track was the second single off his major-label debut album Ain’t Nothin’ To It.

Debuting at No. 1 on both the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and their all-genre Digital Albums chart, Ain’t Nothin’ To It also features Johnson’s debut single “On My Way To You.” Recently certified Platinum by the RIAA, the track has more than 150 million streams and gave Johnson his first Top 10 at country radio. Co-written alongside Brett James and Tony Lane, the song was named as one of ASCAP’s “Most Performed Songs of 2019.”

With over one billion career streams to his name, the 2019 CMA New Artist of the Year nominee will be spotlighted in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s exhibit American Currents: State of the Music, opening this Friday, March 6. Featured alongside country music legends such as Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton, Johnson will be included in theUnbroken Circle exhibit, running through February 7, 2021.

Following a rigorous 2019 touring schedule that featured more than 45+ sold out headlining shows, Johnson continues on the road with Miranda Lambert on her Wildcard Tour throughout May. Next week, he will return to RODEOHOUSTON 2020 for the third year in a row, following a sold out 2019 show that saw a staggering 74,177 in ticket sales. He has received critical praise from outlets such as The New York Times, Associated Press, Billboard and more, with Rolling Stone stating that he “finds himself rapidly hurtling toward mainstream stardom with a unique concept in his arsenal: actual country music.”
