Today, Giovannie and The Hired Guns share Overrated,” the latest single from their forthcoming album Tejano Punk Boyz, which releases October 28 via Warner Music Nashville. With their high-octane collision of rock, Latin and country influences, this group is redefining what it means to be a Texas band. They set the tone with the album’s opening track “Overrated,” a freewheeling rock anthem fueled by pounding drums, hooky guitar and the power of bassist Alex Trejo’s driving tuba.

“The song is about humility,” explains frontman Giovannie Yanez. “No matter how successful (or lucky) you get, always remember your roots and don’t take any of it too seriously. Never give up on your dreams and try to make them real, but the journey is really the best part.” He continues, “One of my dreams is to share my culture with the largest possible audience. We love playing this song live because the tuba is such a cool part of the song and people love it. It’s a way of saying ‘we all belong.’ I mean who doesn’t have a great time when a tuba is on stage!”

In the last year, Giovannie and The Hired Guns has grown from a massively beloved local live act to an undeniable new force on the national rock scene almost entirely through word of mouth. Their breakout single “Ramon Ayala” recently hit #1 on both the Active Rock and Alternative Radio Radio Charts, marking the first time since 2006 that an artist’s first career-charting radio single reached #1 at both. Named one of Amazon Music’s 2022 Artists to Watch, the band has released two other recent singles,
Can’t Answer Why” and “I Don’t Mind,” garnering critical acclaim including Loudwire, American Songwriter, Whiskey Riff and more.

Fronted by Mexican-American lead singer/guitarist Giovannie Yanez and featuring Carlos Villa (guitar), Jerrod Flusche (guitar), Alex Trejo (bass guitar) and Milton Toles (drums), Giovannie and the Hired Guns is a group of brothers hell-bent on breaking out beyond the Texas border and bringing their guitar-fueled, alt-rock sound to the masses. The band has been on the road this summer bringing their unbridled live performances across the country, with more dates to come.
