The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Shares Performance of New Single “The Stranger”
“If it sounds like [Ingrid] Andress is the future of country, you’re right” (Refinery29). The Warner Music Nashville/Atlantic Records recording artist has been named as one of eight artists across all genres that Billboard predicts to earn a GRAMMY nomination for Best New Artist this year (READ HERE). A featured musical guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert for the second time in two months, Andress’ performance of her latest single “The Stranger” was also released today for their #PlayAtHome digital music series (WATCH HERE).
“The Stranger,” which has been hailed by The New York Times as “an elegant evocation of corrosive loneliness,” impacts country radio on Monday (6/1) and follows her Gold-certified, No. 1 debut single “More Hearts Than Mine.” Praising its “beautiful vocals backed by an elegant piano melody,” Teen Vogue premiered its Emma Higgins-directed music video that has already racked up over 1.6 million views (WATCH HERE). The moving footage captures what happens when individuals in varying relationship levels are seated face to face and challenged to consider one another simply and openly without saying a word.
Both tracks are featured on her critically-lauded debut album Lady Like (LISTEN HERE); the highest streaming country female debut album of all time and a driving force behind her recent Top 15 debut on Rolling Stone’s all-genre Breakthrough 25 chart. But “Andress isn’t just topping the charts,” explains Refinery29. “She’s breaking them for women in country” (READ HERE). The ACM New Female Artist of the Year is an accomplished singer/songwriter across multiple genres of music, having penned songs for artists like Bebe Rexha, Charli XCX, FLETCHER and Dove Cameron. She continues to write with heavy hitters in the music community like Sam Hunt, Alicia Keys and Tori Kelly and will go down in history as the only solo-female-debut to crack Top 20 on the Country Airplay chart in 2019.
