Warner Music Nashville artists spanned the entirety of last night’s CMT Music Awards, from co-hosting to performing to taking home trophies honoring their contributions to country music. Blake Shelton, Dan + Shay and Gabby Barrett won Collaborative (“Nobody But You” with Gwen Stefani), Duo (“I Should Probably Go To Bed”) and Breakthrough Video of the Year (“I Hope”) respectively. Dan + Shay and Barrett, as well as show co-host Ashley McBryde and Ingrid Andress, also took to outdoor stages for special performances of their hit singles.
The CMT Music Awards made history last night for Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani, who earned their first award together for the Platinum-certified, multi-week No. 1 duet “Nobody But You.” Their new “joyous duet” (People) “Happy Anywhere” is already Top 10 at country radio and quickly rising.
“Thank you CMT, we love you! This is unbelievable,” Shelton said. “Thank you to the fans – I know you guys literally work your asses off for this. I looked at social media when this thing came around and I couldn’t believe it… all that was on my timeline [was] fans voting... we see all that – so thank you so much. This means the world to us, more than you can probably imagine.”
Dan + Shay won their third consecutive Duo Video of the Year title and performed their latest smash “I Should Probably Go To Bed” (watch HERE). The single, which is nearing 100 million global streams, joins 2019’s 4x Platinum “Speechless” and 2018’s 5x Platinum “Tequila.” The duo recently took home Top Country Duo / Group and Top Country Song at the Billboard Music Awards and are currently multi-nominees for the People’s Choice and CMA Awards.
“Thank you so much – man, that’s incredible,” shared Dan Smyers on social media. “We appreciate y’all. These are fan-voted awards, and fan-voted awards mean that much more to us because we know that you guys are out there spreading the world on social media, voting for us a million times a day. Thank you, guys. It means the world, it really does.”
Added Shay Mooney: “And huge shout out to P. Tracy for such an incredible video, everyone involved… again, to our fans, thank you so much… we’re going to celebrate!”
Gabby Barrett won her first-ever CMT Award for Breakthrough Video of the Year with her record-setting single “I Hope” and also marked her debut performance on the show (watch HERE). The 3x Platinum “streaming tsunami” (HITS) reached No. 1 on Hot AC this week after summitting the country airplay charts earlier this year. The “game-changing hit” (People) is the most-streamed country song of the year and currently sits atop the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart for its 13th week. Barrett’s current single “The Good Ones” has already tallied 75 million on-demand streams and continues to climb at country radio.
Said Barrett in her acceptance speech, “All the fans that voted, thank you so much. That's something that I really loved about country music coming into it, was how loyal the fanbases are and how they just incredibly love the people that they love... I would like to thank my husband, my family back in Pittsburgh, my entire team ... I'm so new to this, this is my first time receiving a television award, so thank you so much CMT."
Acclaimed singer / songwriter and multi-nominee Ashley McBryde made her co-hosting debut last night alongside Kane Brown and Sarah Hyland. She also performed her brand new single “Martha Divine” (watch HERE) from her Gold-certified album Never Will. Meanwhile, “bold new talent [who] continues to impress” (Billboard) Ingrid Andress took the stage for a performance of her latest single “Lady Like” (watch HERE).
